How my son got locked in the house, ALONE!

This is such a sad story! It was the day that Dallas had received a record amount of snow fall. Luke was sent home early form work and Emma wanted to build a snowman with him. They were out in the back yard building a snow man and Eli and I were in the kitchen cooking dinner and watching them from the window. I slipped on Luke's slippers to step on the patio to take a picture of them. Well, I shut the door behind me, the locked door! We had brought our spare key inside for some reason and were completely locked out of the house! Of course I had no shoes on, just Luke's slippers, and no coat. I immediately started to worry when I realized it would be a while before we were able to get in and Eli was just sitting in the kitchen alone. Luke ran over to a neighbors house to call our friends who have a spare key. In the mean time I was standing by the window where Eli was trying to keep him distracted and happy. Then, he fell and hit his face on the window ledge, see the above picture of him crying. It was the worst feeling ever knowing that your baby is hurting and you can't do anything to comfort him. I stayed by the window as he fussed and starting to play with the blind cords, major chocking hazard I know! Let me tell you I was ready to break through that window if I needed to.
To make the story even better, or worse, when we were waiting for our friend to get to our house with the spare key our neighbors, behind us, pulled into their driveway. I told Luke to go ask her if she had an old card we could use to try and get door unlocked with. Well, she pulled into her garage and Luke was standing outside the garage waiting for her to get out of her car but she did not get out and he waited and waited. Finally, I told him to just come back because she was probably scared that there was this strange man in a big coat and hat waiting outside her car. So, he came back over and went in the front to wait for our friend. She then drove away. I started walking around the house looking for windows that may be unlocked when our neighbor came driving back to her driveway. She saw me and rolled down her window and asked if everything was OK. I told her we were locked out and that it was my husband who was outside her car. She then told me she got so nervous that this guy was standing outside her car waiting for her to get out that she called 911, who she was currently on the phone with. She told them everything was OK and hung up. The poor lady thought he was going to mug her or something! What a stressful situation!
But...look at this beautiful snowman that brought it all to pass. I am glad we were able to have some fun in the snow and that little Eli was OK. Heck, he probably loved having the house to himself!
